Glaucoma
Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. Glaucoma is a disease in which the pressure inside the eye (intra ocular pressure/ IOP) rises gradually weakening the optic nerve leading to the gradual loss of vision and sometimes, total blindness. The illness is usually slowly progressing and patients are unaware of anything wrong with their eyes till significant visual loss has occurred. Hence there should be early diagnosis and prompt treatment with proper education of the patient regarding the grave nature of the disease. Glaucoma can be treated as well as controlled but cannot be completely cured. However if left untreated, it can lead to permanent blindness. Most forms of this illness are progressive and need long term care.
we provide the latest tools for the diagnosis of glaucoma such as:
- Fundus Photography
- Non-contact tonometry(NCT)
- Applanation Tonometry
- Perimetry for the assessment of visual fields
- Optical Coherence Tomography with nerve fibre analyzer to pick up early cases of neuronal damage
- Yag laser for relieving the pressure in the eye.
